Is PeoplePerHour a Scam?[Legit Freelance Website or Waste Of Time?]

Hi and welcome to my PeoplePerHour review. Are you looking to make money as a freelance writer? Maybe you want to do freelance work that does not involve just writing? Maybe you would like to earn money by designing banners, creating logos or illustrations? You may be considering joining the PeoplePerHour platform.

Is PeoplePerHour a scam, or can they really help you to find your 'ideal dream job?'

You may be in an environment where your countries economy might be unstable, or your work conditions may be demanding. It makes complete sense to look for a better way to make money. For a way to make money online, or to start your very own home-based business.

Trust me when I say that working online can certainly have its rewards. However you need to make sure that you sign up with the companies who don't waste your time, or worse, they do not end up robbing you of your hard- earned money.

Before I get talking about PeoplePerHour and reveal into which category it falls, you may want to take a look at my NR.1 Recommendation. I have been using it for the past 4 and a half years to make a passive income online.

WHAT IS PEOPLEPERHOUR ALL ABOUT?

The PeoplePerHour.com website is a service dedicated to connecting a client with a freelancer.

The main benefit from the client's point of view is that he or she is able to utilize the services of a freelancer. This saves them the headache of having to pay for the traditional expenses associated with having a full-time employee.

Such expenses, include salaries, health insurance, sick and annual leave, etc. In fact, as a client of PeoplePerHour you have the option to hire a freelancer by the hour, or based on a specific project in mind.

As an incentive, you as a client can join the PeoplePerHour loyalty program.

What is the PeoplePerHour loyalty program all about?

Basically what this means, is that as you hire more services on the platform, you get points to accumulate towards your account. The more points that you earn, the closer you get to unlocking loyalty benefits.

PeoplePerHour Loyalty Program

These benefits include priority support, easier payment methods without any transaction fees, and early access to new features and product releases.

You get one point for every 1,000 pounds spent.

Then, there is the other side namely, the freelancer's perspective.

As a freelancer, you can sign up with PeoplePerhour and offer your services or skills. You get to charge the rate you feel you deserve, and you can choose from a range of categories in which you can market yourself.

The rest of my review is going to be focused more on the perspective of the freelancer rather than the client.

How do you as a freelancer join PeoplePerHour?

Let me show you in the next section.

HOW TO SIGN UP WITH PEOPLEPERHOUR? - THE SIGN-UP PROCESS

The sign-up process with PeoplePerHour is pretty straightforward. You can choose whether you want to use your FaceBook account to register or do it the old-fashion way using your e-mail address.

The next part of the registration process is to complete a questionnaire. The basic idea is to fill as much info as you can about yourself.

They require your contact details, your job description or skills talent info. You can also include any references that you may have from previous jobs.

PeoplePerHour registration process

It's interesting to note that if you are a first time user, the minimum pay rate suggestion is set to 6 pounds. I guess if you have more experience, then you can choose to set your asking price higher. But we will chat about pay rates later on.

HOW DOES PEOPLEPERHOUR WORK?

Whilst the sign-up process is free, it does not guarantee that you will be accepted into their program.

You have to complete an application form. Only once you meet the criteria that their team has set, will you be allowed to market your services.

As I said earlier on, one of the best ways that you can ensure that you get the maximum exposure is to fill in as much information as you can during the application process.

Whatever skills, or expertise you have, even if you have certificates, it will boost your profile immensely.

The competition is tough, and you need to have a good profile to get people to hire you.

For instance, let's say that you are skilled in writing SEO friendly content for website owners.

The image below is just the first page out of 387 pages that turned up for SEO(Search Engine Optimization) content writing.

In other words, if you are just starting out, it's going to take time to get the gigs.

To make your offer even more compelling, you can provide additional services as an up-sell.

The really cool part is that once you start getting recognized, folks will leave reviews, which will boosts your creditability.

The platform is designed in a user-friendly way that allows the client to view these ratings and make a decision at the given moment.

What is the potential to make money on PeoplePerHour?

Let me show you.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU EARN WITH PEOPLEPERHOUR?

Your level of skills, your location and the experience that you have (in a specific area) will determine how much you can charge.

I mentioned that their suggested minimum pay rate is set at 6 pounds.

However, once your application is accepted you do not have to stick to it. You can choose to set your bid price higher.

In my opinion, if you are starting out, focus on the building of your portfolio.

Focus on getting reviews or testimonials. Even if it means that you may need to offer your services at lower prices.

As  you gain the recognition you will start 'climbing the ladder' and get different certifications awarded.

I found a CERT 5 freelancer(ranked in the top 5% of PPH), who charges $7 for his services.

In contrast, other folks charge much higher. It really does depend.

By the way, PeopleperHour deducts 24% of your earnings as their charges.

SOME PEOPLEPERHOUR COMPLAINTS

I read of a complaint by a particular freelancer who claims that PPH gave him the run-around when it comes to getting his paycheck.

He was told to fill out additional documentation, and that he needed to pay PPH to have these documents reviewed.

There were a number of reports on Sitejabber, that stated PPH was not "respecting the values and workmanship of " freelancers.

People felt that their value and skills were only considered if they were to offer them at lower bidding prices.

One user apparently experienced the misfortune of having to do countless revision work for her client before eventually getting paid.

Does this mean that PeoplePerHour is a scam?

Before I answer that, let's quickly take a look at the pros and cons of this business opportunity.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT PEOPLEPERHOUR

They have a long-standing in the market. They have been around since 2007.

Their website is well designed. It allows one to easily navigate through the job offers and see profile histories.

A great variety of job offers that cover a range of categories.

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT PEOPLEPERHOUR

They have a high commission rate.

You cannot cancel a job. You have to wait for the client to cancel. Should you decide to cancel a job, it could reflect negatively against your name.

They have a fair amount of customer complaints.

This is NOT a passive income-earning opportunity.

IS PEOPLEPERHOUR A SCAM? MY PERSONAL OPINION

Is PeoplePerhour a legit freelancing platform, or is it a scam?

In all honesty, I do not think that it is a scam. I do see freelancers earning on this site. On the other side of the coin, there are negative stories too.

I think that at the end of the day, it boils down to one's own experience. I believe that becoming a success on a freelancing platform such as this one requires patience.

You have to start off small, offer your services at a lower than average price and build yourself up from there. Lot's of folks may be competing for the same client, and that can take time for you to eventually get that breakthrough.

Is PeoplePerHour for you? Should you join PeoplePerHour?

If you are a newbie and have the patience, then go ahead and give PeoplePerhour a go. I would recommend, that to increase your chances to join other platforms as well.

In that way, you are not placing all of your eggs into one basket.

But what if you are someone who wants to earn on a consistent basis? What if you want your writing material to give you a passive income, the true recognition that it deserves? Is this possible?

Yes, it definitely is.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN EARN A PASSIVE INCOME FROM WRITING ONLINE?

Why write a piece of freelance material that earns you once, when you can write an article that can help you earn over and over again?

Yes, you can do this by writing content for your very own website. In other words, you put all your efforts into your own online business and you get all the profits for your hard effort.

The best part is that you can start with any niche or topic that you are passionate about.

I have used this very same business model for the past four and a half years to earn a passive income online. I had no experience back then. So it's completely newbie-friendly.

  1. Hi, I am glad I read through your write up. It is very informative and Off course in this crisis and the way things are going, I signed up already for your course. No one like to stay near companies that waste so much time and thanks for sharing the beauty of your company and the lay out it has.

I have always wish to be a freelancer but never got  an opportunity to meet a trusted community, I just wish and hope this will be the right place for me as I got skills acquired from external online marketing companies I have been working with.

  3. Seems like just another extension of the 9-5 rat race. Even though you get to choose your own working hours, the sheer amount of competition that you will face and that will do the same job but cheaper makes this unappealing. Personally I think that it’s perhaps because this is relatively mainstream. It’s still within the concept of working under someone else which we have been brought up upon. Perhaps if people were more open to step outside their comfort zones they’d face more success?
